Located in Beaver Creek, on Gore River about ten minutes from Vail Village, The Westin Riverfront is a four diamond resort that offers cozy mountain luxury. It’s such a pretty setting, and the way the light hits the place, I kept thinking I was seeing things in HD. Everything is bright and crisp and extra clear.
The Lobby
The lobby is huge and has a mountain lodge vibe. There’s a fireplace, floor to ceiling windows with gorgeous views, and shelves with books and board games. It’s an inviting space and opens up to a deck that has a fire pit overlooking the pool, river, and mountains.
Living Room
The floor plan in the suite is open concept. So you can be cooking in the kitchen and not be cut off from the people hanging out on the couch or at the dining table. There were two couches in our living room, one was a pull-out bed.
The color scheme is earth tones, and we found it extremely comfortable, especially at night with a fire glowing in the fireplace.
Bedroom
Bedding is super soft and luxurious and the bedroom is modern with clean lines. It’s also very large with plenty of space in closets to store your belongings out of sight. I slept like a dream which is saying something because I’m quite the insomniac. Attached is a bathroom with a double sink, shower, and soaking tub.
Kitchen
The suite kitchens are fully stocked with quality Cuisinart appliances, pots and pans and everything you need to prepare and serve meals. Dishes, cups, baking pans, glasses for various beverages–they thought of everything. Sparkly quartz countertops had me wanting new countertops at home.
A large dining table that seats six is perfect for serving home cooked meals and playing board games. There are also bar stools at the counter. There’s also a handy washer/dryer in a closet off the kitchen. It’s a well planned space that makes life easy while you’re there.
You can find provisions at the grocery store right up the street (and you can use the house luxury SUV to get there), It’s so pleasant to putter around in the beautiful kitchen, that it can be tempting to prepare all your own meals. Don’t. You have to go to the hotel restaurant, Maya.
Maya Modern Mexican Kitchen & Tequileria
Maya is fabulous. From the wonderful atmosphere and excellent food, Richard Sandoval’s Maya Modern Mexican Kitchen & Tequileria is a must. Outdoor seating with fire pits and gorgeous views, colorful Mexican tiles and modern Latin decor make you want to linger, which we did for about three hours. The bar is especially beautiful and back-lit with glowing blue light.
Margaritas
Maya is famous for having over 100 different tequilas and making awesome margaritas. Which was lucky for me because that’s my favorite drink. And I love unusual margaritas, like the many varieties here. We tried Watermelon, Tamarind, and Prickly Pear.
My favorite was the Tamarind Margarita, but they were all delicious. It made me absolutely giddy to sit in such a gorgeous atmosphere and try delicious drinks.
Food
We got several dishes to share family style. We tried Seafood and Vegetable Enchiladas, Chile Relleno, Queso Fundido (similar to fondue), Caramelized Plantains with Chipotle Butter and Crema Fresca, and Guacamole prepared table-side. What a satisfying meal.
I love plantains and any time I see them on a menu I order them. The Plantains and the Seafood Enchiladas were especially delicious with deep flavors and pleasing textures.
The Pool
The Westin Riverfront has a saltwater pool with dedicated lap lanes. I always get excited when I can swim laps at a hotel, but especially when it’s outside under the sunshine. It’s a gorgeous pool and the fresh air and open outdoor space while swimming laps is energizing.
Spa Anjali
Spa Anjali is a great place to relax. They have a concept of three different “journeys” on offer, Rocky Mountains, Alps, and Himalayas. Each theme has different healing benefits. I went with the Wildflower Polish from the Rocky Mountain Journey.
It’s especially appropriate for a Summertime treatment in the Colorado Rockies because your skin can get really parched between the altitude and heat, especially if you’re not used to it. Beginning with a scrub made from wildflowers and ending with a massage using Spa Anjali’s signature body butter, it’s 100 minutes of soothing bliss.
Kid’s Club
My son never wants to go to kid’s clubs, but then when I pick him up and it’s time to go, he doesn’t want to leave. This was no exception here at the Westin Riverfront. And I almost had to drag him out to go hang out with llamas! He seemed to have an extra good time at this club and the woman who was working in the kid’s club was wonderful and knew just how to handle him. I was impressed.
It’s a mega luxury to be able to drop your child off in capable hands while you go off on a hike, or to the pool or spa. I always say, every resort should offer this as an amenity because the kids have fun, parents get a break, and then you enjoy your time together even more.
Fire Pits
Another thing children love is to roast marshmallows. We found fire pits throughout the property and saw lots of kids getting their smores on. And what adult doesn’t love a fire pit too? I can imagine they are even more magical in the winter.
