CenterHotel Thingholt was my favorite hotel of the four I tried in Reykjavik. Interesting decor, a touch of strange, and a great comfort level made it a place I’d want to return. From the moment I entered the hotel, with the textured black lava walls approaching the front desk, I was immediately fascinated.

The Room

The room had a sunken living room area with a cow hide rug and leather couch. Comfortable. The bed was comfortable too. And the bathroom had cement walls and a cool sink. I loved it. There was a full length mirror with a river rock graphic surrounding it and other quirky design touches like a black chandelier, frosted glass, dark leather floors, and white fringe curtains.

 

 

The restaurant at CenterHotel Thingholt is called Isafold Bistro and this is where they serve breakfast, which was included. It is a glowing purple room with cow hide chairs. I had my coffee and read a magazine before heading out for the day.

 

 

The lobby was also interesting and offered a gathering area to meet other travelers or just chill out. Front desk staff are friendly and helpful and happy to go over directions and any information you might need. Right around the corner from this dining room is a spa area with a big grotto-like hot tub.

 

CenterHotel Thingholt Bottom Line

This is a great hotel in an ideal location. It’s unique and local feeling with a fabulous ambiance. You know what? About a day after I got home, I watched a movie called Land Ho and there was the room! I’m not sure if it was the exact room I stayed in, but it looked exactly like it. At the time I would watch anything that took place in Iceland (probably still would), but I didn’t love the movie apart from the thrill of seeing places I’d just visited.
