TRAVEL & OUTDOORS GIFTS
Camp Chef
For the camper, the foodie or the guy who has everything, the Camp Chef Guy’s Pro90X Bundle is an over the top awesome gift. Based on chef Guy Fieri’s picks, it comes with all the stuff to cook up all the outdoor favorites. In this video he talks about how he used a camp chef set up for his first restaurant to develop recipes. It’s because they’re so versatile. He also goes into depth about how to use the different components.
With all the accessories, you customize it for whatever you want to make from pancakes on the griddle to BBQ in the BBQ Box, to whatever you want to boil and sauté on the high powered burners. I’ve had nothing but success with my cooking on this equipment–seriously it makes me look like a much better cook than I am. Get it as a set or individually and give them different components at a time.
Exped
You can’t go wrong with anything Exped. Everyone that’s ever camped with me knows all about my love of the best sleeping pad in the history of sleeping pads–the Mega Mat. Well, now there is a Mega Pillow! When I’m car camping I almost always take my real pillow from my bed. Yep. I do. Because sleep is precious and anything that helps me sleep good is a priority. No more of that! This baby packs down smaller than a Nalgene and offers the luxe comfort of the Mega Mat. LOVE.
Another great option is the Waterproof Cloud Burst 15 Pack. I’m loving this small pack as a day pack for travel or camping trips. It has a really nice texture to the touch, ventilated straps, a bungee for helmets or jackets, and a roll down top. It’s so light you can use it as a stuff sack, then pull it out as your day pack.
MSR PocketRocket Stove
Small enough to be a stocking stuffer but big enough to feed you on the trail, the MSR PocketRocket Deluxe Stove is a great gift for campers. Throw in some sporks and maybe some Backpacker’s Pantry freeze dried meals and you’ve got a a fantastic little gift basket!
Black Diamond Spot Headlamp
Black Diamond makes my favorite headlamps. Check out the new Spot 400-R Headlamp. This is a great gift or stocking stuffer for campers, climbers, runners, and anyone enjoying the outdoors. You can recharge this headlamp and light your way with 400 dimmable lumens and a red night vision option. This is one of those can’t-miss gifts.
Costa Sunglasses
High end sunglasses are an excellent gift and Costa Del Mar has huge selection. Check out these Sampan shades. These are a good man-gift, especially one that spends time on the water. They have an extra large fit and come in different frame and lens colors. If you like aviators, look at these South Point sunglasses. I never get tired of the aviator style which kind of works with whatever you’re wearing. These also come in a variety of frame and lens colors. Both are polarized, scratch resistant and offer UV protection.
Gerber Knives
A knife is a great gift for men. Look at this gorgeous Tortoise Shell Jukebox Knife. It’s affordable, functional and has a WOW factor. It’s a good EDC knife with style. If you want to go a little more utilitarian, check out the US made Prodigy, which is more of a survival/hunting knife and includes a sheath. It’s more hardcore while the Jukebox is what Gerber calls a “gentleman’s knife.”
MSR Snowshoes
Snowshoes make a wonderful Christmas gift that will get them out there enjoying the snow. MSR has updated their bindings on a bunch of their snowshoes that offer a more comfortable fit with no pressure points, make them easier to slip on and off, and work with almost all boots. Get them a backpack to carry them too!
Rumpl Blanket
You can’t go wrong with a Rumpl. They’re great for road trippers, campers, festival enthusiasts, picnickers, and even couch potatoes who appreciate beautiful design. That’s what sets Rumpl apart from other brands–gorgeous patterns and a huge variety of them to choose from. This vibrant Pixelfetti Warm puffy Blanket made with recycled materials is not only great to look at, but it packs down small for portability, it has loops so you can wear it like a cape or stake it down. This is an easy gift for a wide variety of individuals sure to yield high satisfaction.
Nite Ize Illumination
For your campers and road trippers, Nite Ize offers three great options. The Radiant 314 Rechargeable Lantern. It has a caribiner at the top to attach to branches or the top of your tent. I love the amber mode for night vision and the diffused lighting option.
The rechargeable Radiant Task Light 170 has bendable legs so you can point the light where you need it. Finally, the Radiant Rechargeable Utility Light has a magnetic back to mount and direct light. It’s a flashlight, task llight combined, it also has a red light feature. I especially like this one for road trippers. These would all make great stocking stuffers.
Gregory Nano 20 Backpack
I’m a big fan of all the Gregory Nanos I’ve tried. They are great to use as a daypack while traveling and they are great everyday life. Essential even. The Nano 20 is the largest and holds enough for a weekend (at least for me). You can fit a jacket, lunch, and supplies like the 10 essentials you need for hiking. They come in different sizes to customize just the right amount of space you need for your activity. A wide variety of colors are available (the camo is my favorite) and this is something every traveler, student, gym rat, and day hiker needs. These packs hold water reservoirs and Gregory makes the nicest reservoir I’ve ever used. It has a magnet.
Klean Kanteen
Quality water bottles and insulated kanteens are another sure bet for gifts because just about everybody uses them. I love the stainless steel options from Klean Kanteen like the vacuum insulated 32 oz TKWide with availability of multiple lid options and the 25 oz TKPro thermal kanteen. These are great for road trippers, students, commuters, outdoorsy types and gym rats.
Thermarest Ramble Down Blanket
The Thermarest Ramble Down Blanket is a big down blanket. Measuring 88 x 88 (queen size), it’s a perfect addition to car camping, hammocking, and even home. A 650 fill with hydrophobic down means it will keep you warm and dry. This is a luxurious gift for campers and outdoorsy types, one they might not buy for themselves but secretly want.
Dragon Alliance
Got snow sport lovers on your list? Check out Dragon’s new RVX Mag Goggles that come with a bonus lens. This new design features a lens that comes on and off with magnetic closures. These are beautiful goggles and they come in a variety of colors. For every day wear, the Meridian LL Polar Sunglasses have a polarized lens and classic looks.
SealLine Dry Pack
SealLine’s new 18L Skylake Dry Daypack is a great gift for paddlers, beach-goers, and people that like to fish. It’s a just-right size that will hold lunch, water, extra clothing, and a Packtowl. There’s a handy stow compartment on the outside for easy access and it folds up for easy storage.
CLOTHING, FOOTWEAR & ACCESSORIES GIFTS
Outdoor Research Coze Parka
This winter coat is PERFECTION. I’ve talked about how OR’s recent changes in sizing and styles have been a huge hit and the Coze Down Parka is a great example. They have a shorter version of the Coze, I think I like the long one even better. If you are giving this as a gift, your odds of nailing the sizing are great–I find it true and generous to female curves.
The length is perfect for warmth while still allowing mobility and it has size zips at the bottom to customize (I’ve never seen this before until the Coze). It has all the other technical details you expect from OR like a stash pocket, glove pocket, adjustable hood, hand warmers, and soft chin guard. It’s flattering and functional while being warm and cozy. The Coze is like a big hug–what a great gift!
Kodiak Chelsea Boots
Kodiak is a reliably high quality brand that keeps coming out with fantastic Chelsea boots. Check out this season’s Bralorne Chelsea Boot. They are super comfortable, true to size and great looking. Look at that stitching detail on the back of the boot, this is what makes Kodiak stand out, it’s those details that create character.
Next we have the Bonshaw Wedge Chelsea Boot. A cushy wedge sole offers shock absorption and the heritage leather is water resistant. I love the chevron markings on the heel. Chelsea boots make a great choice for travel because they look good with everything. Kodiak’s footwear runs true to size, so your odds of gifting boots that fit are great.
Eddie Bauer
Eddie Bauer has some wonderful gift options that scream cozy comfort. Look at the Fireside Plush Pullover and the Quest Plush Full Zip Hoodie. These are both butter soft and toasty warm and would make wonderful gifts. The Hoodie is a little more versatile as a layering piece but the pullover is so luxurious, I can’t decide which one I like more. For outerwear, I’m loving the Downlight 2.0 in vibrant Cosmos purple. This is a great, light weight travel friendly jacket that still packs a 800 down fill punch. It has fashionable good looks while being built for the back country.
Chaco Revel Chelsea
The Chaco Revel Chelsea has excellent arch support and a chill casual look. Chaco is calling it a house shoe, but I’d totally wear this out and about. A light weight makes it travel friendly and the Chelsea style goes with everything from skirts, dresses, and jeans to joggers. The Revel runs true to size and comes in several colors and in Women’s and Men’s sizing.
Pistil Designs Accessories
I discovered Pistil Designs a couple of years ago and haven’t shut up about them since. I love the uniqueness of their styles, the color options, the practicality of their stuff. Check out this Carmel Scarf. This is a great please-everyone of any age gift that is especially nice for travel because it’s big enough to function as a shawl. Same for the Pushover Tote that makes a great personal item bag for the plane. It’s big enough for all the essentials.
Look at this cute hat and mitten set, isn’t this a perfect gift? Pistil’s Minzy Beanie and matching Minzy Mittens with hearts in the palms are so sweet yet utilitarian. Anyone that lives with cold weather would love a gift like this.
Acorn Slippers
You can’t go wrong with slippers and I’m loving these new Rockland Mocs made with recycled materials. I like the speckled soles. They are lined with cozy sherpa and the outers are recycled felt. They also come in a Clog version and both are meant to be able to wear indoors and outdoors.
Free Fly Bamboo Fleece
Free Fly is a new brand to me, I’m just discovering their butter soft bamboo fleece. This Bamboo Fleece Thermal Mockneck is butter soft, flattering, and super cozy. The Heathered Black is great for travel. Paired with these matching Joggers you’ve got a great set that’s perfect for cozy time at home, comfort on the plane, and a put-together look for daily life that feels like pajamas.
Vasque St. Elias FG GTX Hiking Boot
These Vasque St. Elias Hiking Boots combine classic, old school hiking boot looks with up to date technology like Vibrum soles and a waterproof Gortex membrane to keep your feet dry. these boots are beautiful in person, have excellent ankle support, comfort, and serious traction.

For the athletic types, check out Roll Recovery’s R8 Plus compression therapy for legs and arms. You can watch this video to see how it works. This can be used pre and post work out and was designed for a range of body types. It’s a great alternative to foam rollers.
I’m also loving their travel friendly R1 Percussion massage gun. It’s light and easy to use. I’ve used other massage guns that were so heavy as to make them difficult to use and this one fits my small hands and is light weight. It also has a high end look and feel, and both of these come with a great presentation and carry bags.

It’s also super attractive and looks great on the counter.

Want to give a gift with meaning? Check out Well Told’s Constellations Mug or Pint Glass. You send them the date and location and they create your glass a map of the actual night sky in that specific point and time. Isn’t that cool? You can mark a birthdate, an anniversary, a special trip or moment when your live changed direction. These are beautiful in person and make a wonderful, personalized present.
NutriMill Stone Ground Grain Mill
NutriMill’s Stone Ground Grain Mill is functional art. Look at it. Warm honey bamboo with black contrast (there are a variety of colors to choose from) and beautiful lines. Something you want to see on the counter. This mill can make fresh flour with all its nutrition in tact on demand.
You can do wheat berries and you can do gluten free flours like rice, quinoa and beans. You can grind fresh flour at the exact texture you want right into your mixing bowl and what a difference it makes in flavor. Wheat berries store for a very long time, so you can keep a supply on hand to make fresh flour whenever you want. This is a wonderful gift for foodies.
Lynn & Liana Bamboo Ocean Vibes Tray
For the Beach Bum, check out this beautiful bamboo Ocean Vibes tray that looks like a window to the sea. What a unique gift for the water lovers on your list. They come in other beautiful colors but I think the ocean themed trays offer the biggest wow factor.
Sleep Machines
Looking for a gift for an insomniac? Or a baby? Check out these sleep machines! Holy cow, how have I lived without this for so long? First we have the LectroFan EVO. This little guy is low profile, travel friendly, and puts out soothing white noise to help you sleep. You can choose your sound and volume from white-brown-pink noise. Second, we have the big boy Sound + Sleep SE which, though not really travel friendly, offers a wide range of sounds from waterfalls to a crackling fire. Both have an aesthetically pleasing design.
While I love the wider sound variety on the larger model, the LectroFan is compact enough for small spaces and does the job with plenty of volume. This is the best gift ever for someone who sleeps with a fan and likes to travel because they can take this with them easily and still get that white noise they need to sleep.

Making your own kombucha is fun, practical and has the thrill of a science project. They both come packaged with a lovely presentation and gorgeous graphics.
Felco Garden Tools
Premium garden tools are something someone might not buy for themselves because they are a little more expensive, but when they’re on the fifth year of use, they will be so glad they have them. My Felco 14 nippers cut through plants and foliage like butter, they are such a joy to use. When you need a little more oomf, reach for the Felco 211-40 loppers. I’m totally sold on Felco as the buy one time option. They made my other garden tools look like toys.
.
Bokashi Living Kitchen Composter
This summer, I spent a small fortune on fertilizers and compost for my garden. Granted, I’m still learning and experimenting, but I knew there had to be a better way. There is! You can compost your kitchen scraps with a Bokashi Living Kitchen Composter. These videos walk you through the process step by step. It’s easy and straightforward. This is a great gift for organic gardeners who can start making their own liquid gold during the winter when there’s little to no gardening to do.
There are several YouTube channels that have taught me to garden this year–I couldn’t have done it without them. It’s fantastic to have an actual book by these creators to reference on the fly without having to search through video.
My favorite YouTube channel right now is Roots & Refuge Farm. Jessica Sowards is down to earth, extremely knowledgable and just a joy to watch. She convinced me I could garden. Her new book, The First Time Homesteader (the follow up to The First Time Gardener) goes into caring for chickens and livestock, bees, farm maintenance and gardening.
Another favorite is Epic Gardening and Epic Homesteading. Kevin Espiritu’s Field Guide to Urban Gardening and Grow Bag Gardening, both excellent resources for small space gardening.
Cali Kim does a lot of container gardening–even watermelons–and walks you through the process step by step as does her book, Organic Gardening For Everyone. Sometimes she partners with Gary Pilchick of The Rusted Gardener who has his own book, The Modern Homestead Garden.
Once the garden is harvested, Saving Seeds teaches the reader how to preserve seeds, and for flower lovers, Blooms & Dreams tells the story of luxury travel writer Misha Gillingham turned farm girl on beautiful Bainbridge Island.
