The Black Diamond Forge Down Hoody is a packable, warm down jacket that is perfect for outdoor adventures or city travel. It easily fits in your daypack, but it’s so beefy it kind of turns your backpack into a magic hat. When you unpack it, there’s more coat here than you would have imagined. I’ve been wearing it as a layer in freezing cold weather and it’s performed beautifully, keeping me warm and dry.
One thing that sets this coat apart from my other down jackets is how structured it is. I’ve never worn a packable down coat with this much form to it. The whole thing packs right up into the chest pocket! It’s really hard for me to believe this jacket gets so small because of how sturdy it is. My other jackets that do that don’t have this sort of structure, it’s pretty amazing.
Black Diamond is using DWR treated ALLIED down in the Forge Hoody, which is premium down that even has a Track My Down system so you can follow the sustainable process and responsible sourcing. I’ve seen this with wool, but never before with down. You can read more about it on their Down 101 page.
Gusseted underarms and a helmet friendly hood makes the Forge Hoody a great jacket for outdoor acuities. You’ve got full range of motion. I love the comfortable cuffs and that the hood and hem are adjustable. Everything about this jacket is quality.
Sizing is slim fit. I wear an 8/10 and the large fits me with room to wear a fleece underneath. The Forge is available for men and women and comes in Blue, Black and Orange. I like the black for city travel and the colors for outdoorsy stuff. Find the Black Diamond Forge Down Hoody HERE.
